Main Office Desk Assistant:
The Main Office Desk Assistant (DA) supports the University Housing Main Office at Appalachian State University by serving as a first point of contact for students, families, and campus visitors. As a member of the front-desk team, the DA is responsible for providing excellent customer service through greeting guests, answering phone calls, and connecting individuals with accurate information and/or referrals. In addition, the DA manages daily office tasks such as recieving and distributing mail and packages, completing projects assigned by the Front Desk Supervisor, and maintaining a welcoming and professional environment.
West/East Service Desk Assistant
The West/East Service Desk Assistant supports the West/East Service Desk Supervisors in Thunder Hill (West) and Appalachian (East) Hall by serving as a first point of contact for students, deliveries, and professional faculty/staff. As a member of the front-desk team in Thunder Hill or Appalachian Hall, the DA is responsible for answering phone calls, connecting individuals with accurate information and/or referrals, issuing temporary spare keys, and accepting deliveries. In addition, the DA manages daily office tasks such as assisting patrons with printing and PERCH supply closet items, and maintaining a welcoming and professional environment.
Resident Assistant:
The Resident Assistant (RA) is responsible for a floor or living area within a residence hall at Appalachian State University. As the front-line University Housing staff member in the assigned area, the RA is responsible for serving as a mentor and guide to 40-60 residents. The RA is responsible for facilitating a cooperative and considerate community environment. To achieve this goal, the RA is expected to initiate relationships with residents, assist in the facilitation of the residential curriculum, encourage participation in residence hall programs, and inform residents of University and departmental policies. In addition, the RAs assist with the personal and academic concerns of students, mediate interpersonal conflicts, and serve as an information resource for residents.
