Students entering Appalachian State University as new freshmen are required to live on campus and are guaranteed housing. An exemption from the freshman housing requirement may be granted to students who meet any of the following criteria:
- Students who are married
- Students who are single parents
- Students who are veterans
- Students living with parents/guardians within a 30-mile drivable radius of campus
Request an Exemption
Any new, incoming freshman meeting any of the criteria listed above who wishes to request an exemption from the housing requirement must complete the Housing Exemption Request and submit it to University Housing. Please be certain to include any supporting documentation necessary along with the exemption request. Please note that the exemption request form requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to view. If you are using Google Chrome as your browser, please be aware that the PDF file cannot be opened within Chrome and will generate an error message; however, the file will still download to your computer's default download location as intended. Simply ignore the error message and you will be able to open the downloaded file as normal.
