Room Swaps
Whether you are going through the ReApplication or the New Student Application process, once you have selected a room for the upcoming academic year, University Housing will not manually adjust that assignment. If you are interested in changing your assignment before the start of the Fall semester, you may participate in the Room Swap process. This function, available in your StarRez housing portal, is completely optional, and will allow participating residents to 'trade' room assignments for the upcoming academic year.
- Log in to your StarRez housing portal. You are only eligible for the Room Swap process if you already have an assignment for the upcoming academic year. If you have an assignment, you will see the 'Room Swap' link on the left-hand side of the screen.
- The 'Room Swap' link will take you to a page titled 'Booking Selector,' where you will see your booking for the upcoming academic year. Please select 'Swap' to continue.
- You will be taken to a page titled 'Room Swap Preferences'. Here, you can add preferences to specify the location and style of the rooms you would like to swap into. You can add up to ten preferences by clicking 'Add Preference,' and using the drop-down menus to select a 'Location' and 'Room Preference' for each. Once you have your list of preferences, you can hit 'Save and Continue'.
- The next page will be titled, 'Room Swap Management'. From this page, you will be able to initiate a room swap request, monitor your pending room swap request(s), and accept or decline an incoming room swap request.
Participating in the Room Swap process is completely optional. If you do not wish to participate, no action is required. You are under no obligation to accept any room swap request that you receive, so you can list your room for swap without committing to trading it. The Room Swap process is only available in select residence halls, due to occupancy. If you do not see the option to Room Swap option on your housing portal after receiving your assignment, please reach out to the University Housing office. You may refer to our Room Swap tutorial for additional guidance. Every year, the Room Swap process will become available to you once you receive your assignment, and will close at midnight on June 30th, prior to the upcoming academic year. Any swaps that are pending (not completed) at midnight on June 30th, will be deleted. Please note that all Room Swaps are individual. You cannot complete a Room Swap that applies to both you and your intended roommate. You cannot swap into an empty space. A space is only eligible for a swap only if it is currently occupied by a student, and who has put it up for swap. Vacant spaces are held for selection in room selection time slots or for consolidation.
Room Changes
If you are currently living on campus and interested in changing rooms, you can complete the Room Change Request Form in your StarRez student portal. The expectation is that prior to submitting a Room Change Request Form, you speak with your hall staff to see if they can help resolve what is prompting you to request a move. Moving in the middle of the semester can be very stressful, and speaking with your RA or your hall supervisor may ease a seemingly unmanageable situation. The Room Change Request Form will open for the semester three weeks after the first day of classes, and close three weeks before the last day of classes. If you are interested in changing rooms before or after the stated window for the academic semester, please contact hall staff.
- Log in to your StarRez housing portal. You are only eligible for a Room Change Request only if you are currently living on campus. You will see 'Room Change Request' on a yellow button on the left-hand side of your screen.
- The 'Room Change Request' link will take you to a page titled 'Booking Selector,' where you will see your booking for the upcoming academic year. Please continue.
- Read the information regarding the Room Change Request process, and then continue. This page includes important information regarding fees associated with the Room Change Request process.
- Select from the 'Room Change Reason' and 'Room Change Type' dropdown menus to best describe the nature of your Room Change Request. Select from the 'Accommodations' dropdown menu, and indicate whether you currently have an approved medical accommodation on file with the University, so we can help identify a space that might best suit your individual needs.
- Optionally, you can let us know of up to two building preferences, a specific room preference, or a specific on-campus student you want to trade rooms with. You can also able to provide a brief explanation of why you would like to move to a different room. Once you have completed this information, if desired, please click 'Submit Request'
If you have a vacant space in your room, it will be made available to other students who need to move due to housing overflow, different housing type needs, roommate concerns, or consolidation. Please ensure that the open space in your room is readily available at any time for a new roommate or for addressing any maintenance concerns. Any students found to have a space that is not ready to receive a roommate during the room change window may be subject to go through the Student Conduct process for a policy violation. A room ready to receive a roommate will have one side of the room, and one set of furniture, clean and clear of student belongings.
