General Information
Current on-campus students who plan to live on campus for the upcoming academic year must go through the Reapplication process by following the steps below.
Reapplication process
- Opens October 1st and closes December 1st annually — closing date extended to January 31st for Spring-only admitted students.
- Submit the ReApp via the University Housing StarRez portal.
- Completing the ReApp does not contractually bind you to live on campus; it gives you the opportunity to select on-campus housing if you receive a selection invitation to do so later in the Reapplication process.
- If you would like to room with a specific individual or group of individuals for the following academic year, you will create a roommate group starting in early December.
Note: you will not be able to modify, create, or delete roommate groups once you select a space and sign a contract.
Once the application period closes
- Students selected for on-campus housing for the coming academic year will receive emails with instructions on how to proceed with the room selection process. These emails are called selection invitations and will be sent in batches. Selection invitations are randomized and not guaranteed.
- Students who have not been selected for on-campus housing for the coming academic year will receive an email.
- All selection invitations will be sent to students via their App State email account.
- Selection invitations will begin at the start of the Spring semester and continue through the end of February, or until all spaces are full.
- Key days in the notification process
- Friday: Students selected for on-campus housing will be notified that they can expect a selection invitation the following Monday.
- Monday: Students who were previously notified on Friday will receive a selection invitation. This email officially opens the time slot to select a bed space. It is important that students pay special attention to the time slot information in this email.
- Thursday: Selected students will receive a reminder that their time slot will close later that day.
- If students miss their selection invitation window, they will be moved to the last round of the selection process.
- To accept a selection invitation, students should log in to the University Housing StarRez portal and select an available room. They must read and sign the Residence Hall License Contract.
- While continuing students invited to the selection process will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of room types, they may not be able to select from all building options. Most halls within central campus will be held for incoming first-year students and those in location-based communities.
- Once students choose a room and sign the Residence Hall License Contract, they are contractually obligated to live on campus for the duration of the academic year (both Fall and Spring semesters). If students wish to break their contract with University Housing, they must submit a written request.
- The contract cancellation policy is as follows:
- If a student chooses to cancel their contract, they must notify University Housing in writing within 2 business days. Following this procedure may help the student avoid a cancellation fee.
- If a student notifies University Housing in writing of their intent not to live on campus on or before May 31st, a $500 cancellation fee will be assessed.
- If a student notifies University Housing in writing of their intent not to live on campus on or between June 1st and July 15th, a $1,000 cancellation fee will be assessed.
- If a student notifies University Housing in writing of their intent not to live on campus on or after July 16th, they will be liable for the full amount of the contract. This does not apply if the student is not enrolled for the Fall semester.
