The Active Living Residential Learning Community offers an opportunity for students to build a community with others who share similar values around an active lifestyle and wish to enjoy the wonderful outdoor surroundings in the High Country. The Active Living RLC advocates for an inclusive community that promotes healthy minds, bodies, and spirits. Members of this RLC learn together in First Year Seminar, attend regularly scheduled RLC meetings and activities, and participate in exclusive events offered by University Recreation. The Active Living RLC is led by Department of Communication professor Dr. Thomas S. Mueller, a former ultrarunner and current cyclist. If you have questions related to your active lifestyle, studies, or future career, Dr. Mueller will be there to help.

Participants in Active Living will live in Thunder Hill Residence Hall. The Active Living RLC will host special move-in events, such as the traditional group hike to the wind turbine on top of campus. Active Living features a mentor program, where students from the prior academic year remain in the RLC for their sophomore year to support and guide new community members. Students in Active Living build lasting friendships through activities such as hiking, camping, swimming, kayaking, and weightlifting. There are also opportunities to share recipes, cook, and enjoy good nutrition.

As part of the Active Living community, students will be required to complete the associated First-Year Seminar "Into the Wild."
