Night Safety Program

The Night Safety Program is a service offered by University Housing that focuses on promoting safety and monitors the residence halls between the hours of 11:30pm-2:00am.  This program performs three vitally important functions:

  • Secures and monitors the residence halls to ensure a safe living environment for everyone
  • Confronts inappropriate behavior and policy violations within the residence halls
  • Responds to crises within the residence halls
Minimum Eligibility Standards

All Night Safety employees must be enrolled at Appalachian State University and maintain a semester and cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.50.  Night Safety employees must work at least three weekend mornings (Saturday and Sunday mornings, Friday and Saturday nights) per month.  As representatives of University Housing, Night Safety employees must be in good standing with the Office of Student Conduct and successfully pass a criminal background check.

Night Assistant (NA):

Night Assistants are responsible for working in the residence halls during the hours of 11:30pm-2:00am.  Night Assistants strive to bring community awareness by making rounds of their assigned buildings to ensure that the living environment is safe and conducive to healthy social interaction and academic achievement.  Night Assistants are hired for one of seven groupings of residence halls.  Applicants should follow the link below and must create an account within the eRezLife system to apply.

Night Assistant Supervisor (NAS):

Night Assistant Supervisors are responsible for shift supervision of Night Assistants during the hours of 11:30pm-2:00am in one of three campus areas.  Night Assistant Supervisors will work 15 hours per week between night shifts, scheduling, and other duties as assigned.  All NAS positions report directly to the Graduate Assistant for Night Safety.
