GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS WITHIN HOUSING & RESIDENCE LIFE
The Department of Housing & Residence Life at Appalachian State University serves approximately 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students. These students reside in 20 residential facilities located throughout the main campus. The Department of Housing & Residence Life is comprised of three areas that function together as one cohesive unit to form the department as a whole: Administrative Services, Facilities, and Residence Life. Housing & Residence Life staff members work closely together to provide the best residential experience possible for ASU students.
Residential facilities on Appalachian's campus house anwhere from 100-400 students per building. The physical layout of the buildings vary from traditional residence hall settings to suite-style apartment living. Our residence halls feature special interest housing such as the Heltzer Honors Program, fraternity/sorority housing, and several Unique Housing Options. In addition, the Department of Housing & Residence Life features the Living Learning Center (LLC), which houses the Watauga Global Community and Teaching Fellows programs.
There are several foundational documents that help to formulate the policies and practices of the Department of Housing & Residence Life. Chief among these are the Mission Statement, Vision, and Core Values. We hope that you, as a prospective Graduate Assistant (GA), will take the time to acquaint yourself with these key philosophies which address who we are and what we hope to accomplish in our work.
One of the greatest benefits of coming to Appalachian is spending time learning from other people. We recruit from all over the country and work to find a diverse staff that will not only represent our student population, but provide a variety of personal experiences to help us grow as a staff. With the yearly infusion of new staff, we are encouraged and pushed to stay aware of new ideas.
We understand that it can be difficult to make a decision to go somewhere completely new. Considering this, we designed this area of our website to give you a little insight on our current staff and where they are from; perhaps you will make a connection along the way! We love to bring in new ideas and faces from all over!
