An RLC is a small group of students who share a common interest or academic major and who live together on the same floor of a residence hall. Students in RLCs often take 1-2 classes together and meet regularly for fun activities related to their shared interest.

RLC quote

Why should you join an RLC? Consider this - students who live in an RLC:Sophomore Year Experience

  • Become part of the Appalachian community more quickly
  • Build friendships with people who have similar interests and academic goals
  • Participate in a variety of social and educational activities
  • Interact with professors outside of the classroom
  • Earn higher grades
  • Stay in college longer and graduate sooner
  • Express greater satisfaction with their college experience
  • Have fun learning!

WHAT IS COMMON INTEREST HOUSING?

Common Interest Housing is for a group of students who share a common interest and live together in a residence hall. Unlike RLCs, students living in Common Interest Housing do not take any courses together. Students in Common Interest Housing will meet for fun activities related to their shared interest. Common Interest Housing will include a mix of first-year and returning students.
