Mountaineer Apartments
| Notice Due to the need for an increase in on-campus housing for traditional students, Appalachian State University has made the decision to close Mountaineer Apartments in May, 2010. The Complex will be razed after the 2009/2010 lease terms have expired. Finalized construction plans for future housing are being considered and more information will be released as a final plan is determined. All Mountaineer Apartment leases will end no later than May 31, 2010 and will not be renewed. During Fall 2009 Housing & Residence Life will be working with you to review alternative living arrangements effective June 1, 2010. We wish you the very best in your educational endeavors. Please feel free to visit the Off-Campus Community Relations web page for information regarding off-campus housing or contact our office if you have questions. Applicants for Mountaineer Apartments must be enrolled as a full–time degree–seeking student during both fall and spring semesters. Applicants also MUST meet one of the following qualifications:
- Single parent
- Married
- Graduate student
- Non–traditional student (age 25 or older)
The Mountaineer Apartments facility is located on the west side of campus. It is university–owned and consists of 90 units that are fully furnished. Lease periods end at the end of the spring semester unless otherwise specified by the tenant and documented on the lease. Students who are graduating, transferring, or wanting to terminate the lease agreement will need to give a 30–day advance notice in the form of a written letter. The written notice may terminate the lease agreement and the rent will be prorated.
Although the apartments are fully furnished, new residents will need to bring items such as a telephone, TV, microwave, pots & pans, tableware, cleaning supplies, and a vacuum. New residents will also need to bring linens for the bed.
To Apply:
Each applicant must provide the Department of Housing & Residence Life with a completed Mountaineer Apartments Application along with any applicable documents needed to verify any of the four standard qualifications listed above (i.e. Marriage License or child's Birth Certificate). Your application puts you on the Mountaineer Apartments waiting list.
Applicants must provide all relevant information on the application regarding correspondence. Applicants are responsible for contacting the Department of Housing & Residence Life to update the contact information on their application. Applications will remain on file for one (1) semester. Applicants are responsible for the renewal of their application if they wish to remain on the waiting list for the next semester. The Department of Housing & Residence Life will attempt to contact an applicant a maximum of three (3) times if space becomes available to offer. After the third unsuccessful attempt the applicant will be removed from the waiting list.
Applicants that are offered an apartment and accept the assignment must sign a lease. Payment of a $100 security deposit must be made within ten (10) days of signing the lease to secure the assignment.
