Student Administrative Assistant (DA/PA):
Desk Assistant (DA): Desk Assistant positions provide administrative assistant support to many different areas of the Department of Housing & Residence Life. Specific job descriptions are left flexible as the responsibilities for individual areas may differ depending upon the supervisor. DAs may provide support for Area Coordinators, Assistant Directors, Housing Assignments, the Package Desk, and the Front Desk reception area. Most positions offer 15 hours of work per semester week, with some offering more or less depending upon position responsibilities. Students applying for DA positions must maintain a semester and cumulative GPA of 2.25, be in good standing with the Office of Student Conduct, and successfully pass a criminal background check. Overall, the Department of Housing & Residence Life seeks full-time enrolled students with a proficiency in general clerical services including, but not limited to, the following skills:
- Document ordering/filing
- Memo and letter writing
- Answering telephones
- Database entry
- Taking of minutes at meetings
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Enjoys working with the general public
Programming Assistant (PA): Programming Assistant positions are responsible for helping RAs in each community fulfill the requirements of the Residential Learning Initiative (RLI). PAs are trained to help provide on-campus residents with top-of-the-line bulletin boards and innovative hall programs. Each community (App Central, Eastridge, Pinnacle, Stadium Heights, and Yosef Hollow) is assigned a PA for that particular area. PAs for a particular community will attend building staff meetings and programming events in that area to familiarize themselves with their assigned community.
